Marty Doscher, David Ketch, Chris Seals and Adam Woltag spoke with Volume 5 about their company, Akamai, which is developing software tools for use in design and construction. The four partners met during graduate studies at SCI-Arc (the Southern California Institute of Architecture), and take their name from the Hawaiian word for innovation. They envision that over the next few years, the Internet will bring major changes to the building industry, particularly in terms of the integration of all phases of design and construction, and the possibilities of three-dimensional computer modeling. This should put more power in the hands of the architect, who will be equipped with more information to guide the finished product from the earliest stages of design.
