Process: Poirier Residence

By Scott Parker, Scott Parker Design

The Poirier Residence is intended as a replacement for the house that was destroyed by the Malibu fires of 1993. The client is a contractor who has worked on various building by John Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright. This experience caused the client to want the house to have some sort of connection with the landscape.

The houses form comes from a matrix created by the survey points that were used to describe the sites topography. The intention is that by using this matrix, the connection the client desired can be made without falling into the trappings of a predetermined style such as organic architecture.

The house is 1700 square feet and is organized spatially as one large room. The effect is the ultimate bachelor pad.
