Ray Kappe receives the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Topaz medallion for lifelong excellence in architectural education.

1991
SCI-Arc is selected as one of two architecture schools to represent the United States at the 5th Biennale of Architecture in Venice, Italy.

 

The Kappe Library is opened and dedicated to SCI-Arc founders Ray and Shelly Kappe.

1993
International Architectural Exhibition and Sale raises $100,000 for the school.

Public Access Press, a series of publications by students and faculty, is launched by a grant from the Graham Foundation.

1994
The Kappe Alumni Campaign is initiated to raise funds for the Kappe Library.

SCI-Arc is rated 13 out of 20 top Master's of Architecture programs in the country by US News & World Report. SCI-Arc is the only independent school named.

SCI-Arc is selected as one of 15 institutions included in "A Comprehensive Review of Architecture Education in the United States" conducted by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the American Institute of Architects, the American Institute of Architecture Students, the National Architectural Accrediting Board and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

The Rose Marie Rabin International Student Aid Fund is established.

1995
"Cycles of Expression " exhibition of student and faculty work shown at Grand Central Terminal, New York City.

Instructor John Kaliski named one of "50 for the Future" by Time Magazine.

SCI-Arc gains accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Post-secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

Michael Gruber is the first SCI-Arc alumnus to receive the Rome Prize from the American Academy.

The SCI-Arc Network, a work referral service for alumni, is launched with a nationwide publicity campaign.

SCI-Arc receives funding from LA's Community Redevelopment Agency and Department of Transportation for "The Bike Stops Here," a summer workshop program resulting in 10 site-specific public art bicycle racks installed in downtown Los Angeles.

1997
City Practice + Research Center (CPR), an outreach program that implements community programs as part of the SCI-Arc curriculum, is established.
Incoming students required to complete a set number of CPR credits to graduate.

SCI-Arc is rated 12 out of 20 top Master's of Architecture programs in the country by US News & World Report. SCI-Arc is the only independent school named.

Mobilier Doux, an exhibition of student furniture projects is displayed at Pacific Design Center, and is sponsored by Kimball International.
 

The Michael Rotondi Gallery is inaugurated with the exhibition "Ideologies of Seeing: Faculty Work From the Visual Studies Program at SCI-Arc."
