Barbara Masket

Barbara Masket Design, inc., established in 1989, is a design oriented firm currently located in Santa Monica, California. BMD inc. specializes in high-end residential and commercial design, as well as interiors. Barbara Masket, principal designer and owner of the firm, is a native of New Jersey. She earned a Masters Degree in Architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, (SCI-Arc), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at American University in Washington, D.C.


To date, the only city I have ever built in is L.A. - a city that is always described as elusive, unreal, or just “hard to define”. Since all projects must deal with a client, a site and a set of building standards, it is sometimes difficult to merge those constants with the unidentifiable L.A. Through my projects, I try to show the connection and positive influences that L.A. has had on me. It is important for me to bring some sensitivity and awareness of this city to my projects - either through the siting or the materials I use - in order to create an escape from the world outside.
