Individuality Interview with Nader Khalili of Cal-Earth Institute: Hesperia, California
I think that the talk about sustainability has to begin with you, with me. If you are sustainable within yourself, you are a contributor to society. You have to sustain your own dreams, your own quest, your own beliefs, within yourself. Every night and every morning everyone is talking about how fast you can make dollars here, or how fast you can do that and you're taking - you're not sustaining. Sustainability is a quest within yourself. If you sustain that quest as long as you can, then you don't need to lecture or read millions of books or go everywhere.
The way to reach the universe is through a little pebble you can hold in your hand. If you can sense it and hold it long enough in your hand, you already have the background that's necessary. The next stage is the journey within. It isn't easy with all the problems out there, but it's possible to sustain that quest, and everything else becomes secondary. We each must decide what is most important to us; then whatever you produce, you become very effective and very natural in the universe itself. We all have the possibilities of imagining these things.
We learn with all the senses at once, not just audio-visual.. We don't sit around here and just talk about spirituality in these sorts of buildings. I don't believe anybody can come here and sit in this building and get depressed. Try it! We have prizes for people who come here and get depressed, or who come here and it doesn't help them out! There are thousands of hands here, the soul and the energy of the people who participated in this.
