Sergio A. Zeballos
Sergio A. Zeballos Architect (SAZA), established in 1988, is a Santa Monica based firm offering comprehensive architecture design and planning services for civic, institutional, commercial, and residential clients. Through its design work, the firm integrates the disciplines of art and environmental design in order to produce intelligent and insightful projects that extend conventional notions of architecture. Sergio A. Zeballos Architect espouses principles of strong conceptualization, knowledge of materials, products and construction techniques, and precise follow through during project execution. The input and desires of the client are of utmost concern, and the firm’s technical expertise and aesthetic sensibilities are complemented by an interest in the future direction of architecture and a commitment to sustainable design practices.
Sergio Zeballos is personally involved in every project, playing a critical role in overseeing site and program analyses, development of design concepts, presentation, execution of the design solution, and construction observation. He has 17 years experience in design, project management, and production of various building types and scales, and coordination of specialists, consulting engineers and technical support entities, with a vision toward achieving the design objectives.
A graduate of Princeton and Columbia Universities, Mr. Zeballos’ interest in Modernist architecture stems from his education and experience as project architect at the office of Frank O. Gehry & Associates. The formulation of clear design objectives and the follow-through in the execution of the built form are evident in several recently completed projects, like the Kagan and Cook Residences, as well as several pieces of furniture designed for specific clients. The firm’s electronic media and design expertise, exercised on a joint venture basis with Gerard Smulevich, helped to develop the trust of local City government, leading to the design of several public works projects, including SAMOSHEL (the Santa Monica Homeless Shelter), and the Main Street commercial rehabilitation project in Carson, California.
Mr. Zeballos is equally active in the community, serving as an appointed member of Santa Monica’s Architectural Review Board, and is a member of the multi-headed working group preparing design recommendations to the City of Santa Monica’s City Council for the future use of the historic Marion Davies estate on Pacific Coast Highway, with buildings designed by Julia Morgan. Additionally, Mr. Zeballos is visiting design faculty at Woodbury University’s School of Architecture and Design.
