Winston Brock Chappell

A California native, Winston Brock Chappell grew up in a house designed by A. Quincy Jones with a landscape by Garrett Eckbo. From his parents, he learned a sense of craft and the spare esthetic of ikebana. He studied art history at Harvard University and received a Master of Art in design from California Institute of the Arts.

His first project, which was the design and construction of an elliptical geodesic dome for the Aspen Design Conference, began his design/build practice. More recently, he has specialized in the design of residences in both traditional and modernist styles.

He has taught studio art and environmental studies at Oakwood School in Los Angeles; art history at the Crossroads School, Santa Monica; Treehouses at the Seven Arrows Cultural Center, Pacific Palisades; and workshops in the renovation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
