Pratt Institute in Lucca
Pratt Institute offers studio courses in Painting, Drawing, and Photography, as well as classes in Art and Design Education and a week long Institute for Teachers. Featuring well-lit studios in the beautiful walled city of Lucca, the program will include field trips to nearby Florence, to see first hand the art of the high Renaissance. Trips to Arezzo, and Siena, and Pietra Santa will include visiting the marble yards and bronze casting in the foundries. Via critiques and lectures (including those by guest artists) students will be guided in exploring their sensibilities, talents and crafts in a diffrent culture. Students will create site-specific projects, journals, collaborations, installations, paintings, drawings, sculpture, and photographs. Classes will stress criticism, discipline, and understanding consistent with the Pratt vision of combining exploration with ideas about quality.
The course in art and design education will teach drawing to a group of English speaking Italian students from a local art high school. Walking tours of Lucca will provide subjects for assignments.
